Overview

Bowling Green V.F.D. was founded in 1947. The first fire station was constructed, mostly by volunteers, on Hickory Avenue. The first fire truck, a 1928 American LaFrance, was purchased in 1948. In 1956, the Maryland State Roads Department purchased the fire department property for the relocation of U.S. Route 220. The new road was never built but resulted in the stations relocation to its present seat on McMullen Highway. The department purchased the old property back from the state when it was decided not to build the proposed road. The department has been through its fair share of trucks and equipment throughout the years.
